zerotable.jpgIt has a round table top. It has a thick frame. It has a wide base. None of these seems remarkable in themselves. But taken altogether and imbued with a certain something that can’t be explained, it results in something that looks awfully nice in its very simplicity. Such is the Zero Dining Table created by Spanish designer Jesus Gasca as part of his Stua line of furniture, manufactured by his Stua company in Spain.

The Zero Dining Table certainly does not score a zero in the looks department. It has this light, casual appearance that’s a sharp contrast to clunky, more formal dining table creations. It was created to complement Gasca’s Globus chairs, but with its simplicity it can be paired with other chairs as well. Also, it can be used in various settings: as commercial bistro furniture, as office cafeteria tables, as informal dining tables tucked away in comfortable nooks at home.

It also doesn’t score shabbily in the design department. It has a matte anodized aluminum column and a sandblasted, chromed steel base to which plastic guides are attached to prevent floor damage. The table top is available in a wide variety of natural wood veneer options: wenge-stained alpi, natural-stained beech, maple, natural cherry, bleached oak, white lacquer. The table is 29 inches high and the table top has a diameter of 23.5 inches. The diameter of the base is 18 inches. Buyers in the United States can purchase this table via Design Within Reach, the exclusive retailer of the Stua line in that country.

Contemporary furniture need not have too many bells and whistles to be both effective and beautiful. Simple lines and curves can be just as eye-catching as more ornate patterns and radical edges. Sometimes keeping it simple works best in terms of furniture and elsewhere.
